When a hot North American oil and gas supplier, Parkland Fuel, needed to upgrade their outdated, manual SQL processes and setup their Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) solution, they turned to Strafford's Hyperion implementation and data quality management team to help improve finance efficiencies.
Outdated, manual-intensive data loading and metadata management. Oracle HFM licenses not being used.
Hyperion Financial Management (HFM)
Modernized data loading process and improved integration with their ERP system. Implemented HFM so they could demonstrate the capabilities of the platform to the finance team and Parkland business executives.
With rapid growth due to acquisitions, Parkland's finance team expanded and so did their need to modernize existing finance practices – specifically outdated manual SQL processes that prevented them from having complete confidence in their data loads.
Bringing in Oracle Financial Data Quality Manager Enterprise Edition (FDMEE) would ease their data load processes and improve finance efficiency. Strafford went to work gathering requirements and building out a project plan. During and after the FDMEE implementation, which took less than 3 months, Strafford ensured that Parkland users had the knowledge they needed to streamline and automate their data transfers.
With the Oracle FDMEE solution set up and metadata handlers expanded, Strafford began the shell HFM implementation. They did run into a glitch with regards to the use of special characters in HFM, but Strafford was able to deliver a unique solution that addressed the requirement.
Moving from a heavy, manual ETL process to a streamlined and automated FDMEE environment, enables Parkland's IT group to be hands-free and simply monitor the finance systems. And, the HFM shell application is built and ready to go when the finance team is ready to use it.
Just some of the results Parkland has seen:
- Improved Efficiency
- Reduced Reliance on IT
- Expanded Metadata Handlers
- Confidence in Data Loads
- Ability to Scale and Grow With The Business
